THE POWER OF OMEGA 3
THE POWER OF "3"
Omega 3 that is....in the family of fats known as Essential Fatty Acids. In dietary terms “essential” means that your body cannot make it by itself. EFA's are very important to the body because they are the foundation or building blocks of every cell in our body, they help regulate our hormones and regenerate our organs.
EFA's can be found in abundance in cold water ocean fish. (tuna, cod, herring, halibut and mackerel)
There are many benefits to adding EFA's to your daily supplementation program. Two of the most important that apply to fitness and weight-loss are EFA's ability to accelerate fat-loss and the ability to act as an anti-inflammatory.
EFA's are vital in accelerating fat loss by turning on the lipolytic genes (fat burning genes) and turning off the lipogenic genes (fat storage genes). One study showed EFA’s can increase metabolism as much as 400 calories per day! Also EFA's have been shown to help regulate diabetes/insulin resistance disorders.
As an anti-inflammatory, EFA supplementation has shown to greatly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (specifically heart disease which is a form of inflammation) and joint, connective tissue and muscle disorders/traumas (hard, exhaustive workouts).
Some conditions that have been linked to Omega-3 Deficiencies are:
Eczema and psoriasis
Hair loss
Reduced immune function
Poor healing
Miscarriages
Circulatory disorders
Schizophrenia
Epilepsy
Impairment of vision
Spread of rheumatic and arthritic disorders
Glandular atrophy, which in turn leads to infertility, growth deficiency and weight disorders
In summary, EFA"S help build and regenerate our bodies, help our bodies increase our metabolism and release stored fats for energy, decrease inflammation and pain, reduce muscle soreness and shorten recovery time. So this is real easy for me to say, if there is one supplement above all others that you should be taking as part of a program its EFA's specifically Omega-3.
